Humans of McAuley

When I was 12, I witnessed someone hit by a car. She was a trash collector doing her job in the early morning, and a car coming the opposite direction of mine didn’t see her. To avoid traffic, that car drove up onto the sidewalk – idiot! – and didn’t see her. She flew into the air and came down with a thud. My mom stopped our car and we ran to the woman, who was lying on the ground, injured and scared.  I don’t know the extent of her injuries, but the blood and her moans lead me to believe they were serious. I learned that day that drivers should always be cautious and watch for pedestrians. I hope I never see anything so horrible again.
