Mindy Tran, mother of twin daughters, Saleen and Sydney, used her body as a speed bump to stop her car from rolling into traffic. Mindy says that she strapped her daughters into their seatbelts and then went to lock her front door. When she was at the door, she realized that her car was rolling down the hill and heading toward ongoing traffic.
A neighbor who happened to see the commotion stepped in to help. “My neighbor jumped in, and he asked what I wanted them to do,” she said. “I said make sure my daughters got out of the car safely.” Fortunately, Mindy’s neighbor was able to get Saleen and Sydney out of the car and they were unharmed. “I’m lucky to be alive,” says Tran.
She says that it was just instinct that caused her to throw herself behind her moving car. “I laid down horizontally using my body as a speed bump to stop the car,” she said. Tran’s left knee was crushed and her right leg was dislocated. Also, she injured her hips and dislocated her shoulder. “I don’t consider myself a hero,” she said. “I am just a mother.” But what a heroic mother!
