Would You Let the Internet Name Your Child?

Cause I Wasn’t Already Crazy Enough…

After a woman finds out she is pregnant, it seems only natural that she and her spouse become more and more excited about picking a name for their future child.  For a Canadian couple, the choice of their daughter’s name is in the hands of none other than the internet. Seriously. Stephen McLaughlin and his wife have had over 7,000 suggestions of first and middle names on their website, NameMyDaughter.com.  Some names are as strange as Thundercat, Streetlamp, Watermelon, and the ironic World Wide Web.  The name in the lead as of January 23rd is Cthulhu All-Spark McLaughlin.  Granted, the family did state on the website, “Unfortunately, Internet, I know better than to trust you. We will ultimately be making the final decision; alas, my daughter shall not be named WackyTaco692.”  Some might see this as being bad parents, making a joke out of their child’s name.  Other people might see this as an advance in technology and an unconventional way to start naming children.  Whether you agree or disagree, you have to give the couple credit for their creativity.
